Cheryl has 25 years experience playing and teaching the violin. She was a member of the first violin section of the San Jose Symphony and Silicon Valley Symphony for over 20 years. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and studied Suzuki pedagogy and music theory at San Francisco State University. Her teachers included Alice Schoenfeld at USC, Andor Toth at Stanford University, Jorja Fleezanis and Zoya Leybin of the San Francisco Symphony.
Along with Suzuki methodology, Cheryl uses a traditional approach and material by pedagogues such as Shirley Givens, Paul Rolland, Kato Havas, Simon Fischer, and Mimi Zweig. She teaches note reading and relaxation techniques from the beginning in a supportive environment. She offers private and group lessons and training in orchestral repertoire for ages 7 and up.
"I have known Cheryl for many years and highly recommend her as a violin teacher. She has studied pedagogy with great teachers and is analytical and insightful in her teaching. She has even been able to analyze technical problems over the phone, and I have seen rapid improvement in her students." Susan Stein, Director, San Jose Chamber Youth Symphony
