“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” - Plato
Kate earned her Bachelor of Music cum laude from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and her Master of Arts in Music with distinction from the University of London. Before moving to California, she taught students from beginning to advanced levels in the Chicago area and was an active member of the Illinois Music Teachers Association. She regularly has her students participate in the Certificate of Merit program.
Kate’s primary focus in lessons is to connect with each student’s individual learning style and work with them to find their own unique voice and expressive style on the instrument. She incorporates music theory, music history, aural skills training, and improvisation exercises into lessons and seeks to instill in each student a sense of joyful exploration.
In addition to teaching, Kate’s performance and professional interests include impressionist and 20th century music, debuting new music works, world music, and music pedagogy traditions throughout the world; she has also been known to play the accordion in American and European folk bands.
