Play music studios exam preparation

Our expert teachers prepare students for annual exams, including Certificate of Merit® (CM), Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM).

Play Music Studios encourages students to take these exams as they help students set a goal, strive to achieve them, and see improvement and
results on an annual basis. All of our students can feel and hear the difference after every test.

Preparation Timeline

  • Four Months before Exam Day

Start competition repertoire & musicianship classes.

Students will begin prepping for exam repertoire 4 months ahead. Teachers will give a personalized roadmap for each student, guiding them on how to register and pick the correct level & repertoire

While musicianship classes aren’t required, we strongly recommend students join. These classes allow students to hone their music theory, techniques, and workshop their pieces beyond lesson time

  • Two Months before Exam Day

Add extra lessons, start memorizing & sound recording

Adding extra lessons will allow students to perfect their techniques and be well-prepared for exams. Extra lessons will better help students memorize all their pieces as teachers will give them practice tips

In-class sound recording helps students better understand their playing and performance style. An in-depth analysis will occur

  • One Month before Exam Day

    Rehearsal & Piano Accompaniment

Students will be doing practice rehearsals and other group performing sessions to mimic live-performing conditions. This is essential.

Some competitions require a piano accompanist. Teachers will help students find professional piano accompaniment.

  • Exam Day!

Time to showcase your skills! Take a deep breath and relax—your hard work will pay off!

These exams not only prepare students to become expert and professional musicians, but also solidify the skills that go beyond music—longterm goals, consistent practice, mental strength, and of course, love for playing music!
